Can Aluminum foil packaging bags Be Heated?

Aluminum foil packaging bags have certain high-temperature resistance, but they cannot be heated arbitrarily due to their special metal-plastic composite structure. Whether aluminum foil bags can be heated depends on their product grade and heating methods. Ordinary household aluminum foil bags are not suitable for any high-temperature heating, while professional retort aluminum foil bags support limited high-temperature sterilization and boiling. Meanwhile, microwave heating is strictly prohibited for all aluminum foil bags, which is a critical safety rule in daily packaging use. Clarifying the heating conditions and taboos can effectively avoid packaging damage and potential safety hazards.
Ordinary composite aluminum foil bags cannot be heated or boiled. This type of bag adopts PET, aluminum foil and PE composite structure, with regular polyethylene as the inner heat-sealing layer. Its maximum withstand temperature is only 70 to 80 degrees Celsius. When encountering boiling water or continuous high temperature, the inner plastic layer will melt, soften and shrink rapidly, causing the sealing edge to crack and delaminate. Worse, the overheated plastic material may precipitate harmful substances, which will contaminate the internal food and threaten dietary safety. Such bags are only applicable for normal-temperature sealed storage, refrigeration and freezing, and all active heating behaviors must be avoided.
Only food-grade retort aluminum foil bags support high-temperature heating treatment. These professional bags use high-temperature resistant RCPP inner materials, with stable structural performance. They can withstand a high temperature of 121 degrees Celsius for 30 to 60 minutes, which meets the standard of high-pressure steam sterilization and boiling heating in the food industry. They are commonly used for vacuum packaging of braised meat, cured food and pre-cooked dishes. High-temperature heating can kill microorganisms inside the package and extend the food shelf life. However, this heating is limited to water boiling and steam sterilization, excluding any electromagnetic heating methods.
It is universally forbidden to put aluminum foil bags into microwave ovens. The metal aluminum foil layer will reflect microwave energy, causing electric sparking, microwave leakage and even equipment burnout, which may lead to fire risks. In summary, most ordinary aluminum foil bags cannot be heated. Only professional retort aluminum foil bags are allowed to be boiled and sterilized at 121°C, while microwave heating is strictly banned for all types. Users must distinguish bag types and follow heating specifications to ensure usage safety.
