Material Selection for Custom Liquid Spout Pouches

Material selection is the most critical step in customizing liquid spout pouches, which directly determines the packaging’s barrier performance, temperature resistance, safety and service life. Unlike general disposable packaging bags, liquid packaging materials must adapt to different liquid characteristics such as viscosity, oxidation sensitivity, corrosiveness and storage conditions. A scientific and reasonable material combination can effectively prevent liquid leakage, oxidation, mildew and deterioration, while mismatched materials will cause packaging failure and food safety hazards. Custom manufacturers usually match composite structures according to usage scenarios to meet diverse packaging needs.

For ordinary transparent liquid packaging, the most classic and cost-effective option is the PET/PE composite material. PET outer layer provides high transparency, scratch resistance and flat appearance, which clearly displays the internal liquid and improves product sales appeal. The food-grade PE inner layer offers excellent softness, heat-sealing performance and low-temperature resistance. This material combination is suitable for stable, non-light-sensitive daily liquids, including purified water, fruit juice, cold beverages, hand sanitizer and mild detergent. It supports refrigerated storage and normal-temperature sealed preservation, fully meeting the daily packaging needs of common low-risk liquids.

For light-sensitive, oxidizable and high-value liquids, PET/AL/PE aluminum foil composite material is the optimal choice. The middle aluminum foil layer achieves full light shielding and ultra-high barrier performance, completely isolating ultraviolet rays, oxygen and water vapor. It can effectively prevent color fading, flavor loss and ingredient oxidation of syrup, honey, traditional Chinese medicine liquid, essential oil and nutritional liquids. This material structure greatly extends the shelf life of liquid products and is suitable for long-term sealed storage. It is the preferred material for high-grade liquid packaging that requires strict fresh-keeping effects.

For high-temperature sterilized liquid food such as hot soup, stewed broth and cooked seasoning liquids, PET/PA/CPP high-temperature resistant composite materials must be adopted. The thickened PA layer enhances puncture resistance and tensile strength, while the CPP inner layer withstands high temperature of 121°C, supporting industrial high-pressure retort sterilization without melting, delamination or harmful substance precipitation. In addition, all customized materials must comply with GB 4806 food safety standards to ensure non-toxic and harmless food contact. In conclusion, the material selection of liquid spout pouches should be based on liquid attributes, storage methods and shelf life requirements to achieve safe, stable and high-quality packaging.
