High Temperature Resistance of Vacuum Packaging Bags

Most ordinary vacuum packaging bags are not high-temperature resistant, and their heat resistance depends entirely on the composite materials used in production. Unlike high-temperature resistant packaging bags such as retort pouches, conventional household and commercial vacuum bags are mainly made of PA and PE composite materials. These common plastic materials have low heat deflection temperature, which makes them only suitable for normal-temperature storage and low-temperature refrigeration. Exposing ordinary vacuum bags to high-temperature environments will cause material softening, deformation, melting and structural damage, affecting packaging safety and food quality.
Conventional PA/PE vacuum bags can only withstand a maximum temperature of about 60 to 80 degrees Celsius. In daily use, they are suitable for storing food at room temperature, in refrigerators and freezers, and support short-term cold storage and fresh-keeping work. Once the ambient temperature exceeds the tolerance range, the inner PE layer will gradually soften and shrink, while the outer PA layer will lose its tensile toughness. The sealed edge of the vacuum bag will crack and fall off, resulting in air leakage and vacuum failure. In severe cases, the plastic material will melt and adhere to food, releasing harmful substances and causing food safety risks.
Only special customized high-temperature resistant vacuum bags can adapt to high-temperature environments. This type of bag adds high-temperature resistant materials such as CPP and PET on the basis of traditional composite structures, and can withstand temperatures ranging from 100 to 121 degrees Celsius. It supports high-temperature cooking, steaming and high-temperature disinfection, and is commonly used for vacuum packaging of braised meat, cured food and ingredients that need high-temperature sterilization. However, this high-grade vacuum bag is different from ordinary products, with higher production costs and stricter manufacturing processes.
To sum up, standard vacuum packaging bags on the market are not resistant to high temperature and are prohibited from high-temperature heating, boiling and baking. Users must distinguish conventional vacuum bags from high-temperature resistant retort bags. Using vacuum bags within a safe temperature range can avoid bag damage, air leakage and potential safety hazards, ensuring standardized food storage and packaging application.
