Food-grade spout pouches are special flexible packaging for liquid food storage, and they must comply with strict national safety and industrial technical standards to ensure food contact safety, structural stability and long-term preservation performance. Unlike ordinary industrial packaging bags, food-grade spout pouches have unified mandatory regulations on material composition, sanitary indicators, physical strength, barrier performance and solvent residue. These standardized specifications effectively prevent harmful substance migration, packaging leakage and food contamination, forming a complete quality control system for production and market circulation.
The core safety standard focuses on food contact material hygiene, dominated by China’s national mandatory standard GB 4806.7-2016. This standard strictly restricts plastic materials and composite layers of spout pouches, requiring non-toxic, odorless and harmless properties during food contact. It limits heavy metal content, plasticizer migration and evaporation residue, and controls the total solvent residue below 5.0 mg/m² to avoid chemical contamination of liquid food. All food-grade spout and bag body materials must pass this food safety certification, which is the basic threshold for market access.
In terms of physical and structural standards, food-grade spout pouches follow GB/T 10004-2023 and BB/T 0076-2018 industry specifications. The standards regulate tensile strength, puncture resistance and thermal sealing performance. The thermal sealing strength is required to reach no less than 3.5 N per 15 millimeters to avoid sealing cracking and liquid leakage during extrusion and transportation. For pouches storing granular or viscous liquids, the puncture resistance must meet higher thresholds to prevent piercing damage. Meanwhile, the welding firmness between the plastic spout and the bag body is clearly specified to prevent falling off and leakage during repeated opening and closing.
Barrier performance is another key standard indicator for food-grade spout pouches. Qualified products must maintain low oxygen and water vapor permeability. The oxygen transmission rate is controlled below 1.0 cm³ per square meter per day, and the water vapor transmission rate is less than 0.5 g per square meter per day. This high barrier standard inhibits microbial growth and liquid oxidation, ensuring the shelf life stability of beverages, sauces and traditional Chinese medicine liquids. In addition, high-temperature resistant retort spout pouches need to pass 121°C high-temperature sterilization tests to meet thermal processing food packaging requirements.
In summary, food-grade spout pouch standards cover sanitary safety, mechanical performance and barrier quality. Compliance with national and industrial specifications guarantees packaging safety, airtightness and preservation effect, which is essential for standardized food liquid packaging and safe circulation.
